    Our Impact…

“Social media is critical to the development and promotion of service learning programs. Besides capturing experiences for recollection, social media has the potential to attract interest and ultimately, logistical and monetary support. It is important to see who is involved, what type of work they do, where volunteers would be working and why the work is important to the specific host community. Prior to joining the Global Brigades, I had never participated in a service-learning program abroad, and had rarely traveled outside of the U.S. Backpod greatly contributed to my decision because they were able to visually capture aspects of the trip that could not be depicted by text. Of course someone could make the claim that “the children were happy when the volunteers finished the project,” but being able to see the “happy children” embrace the volunteers has a much greater impact upon prospective supporters.”  – Jimmy Taitano Camacho, Global Water Brigades Volunteer

The Hub: The world’s first participatory media site for human rights

We stumbled across this interesting site & wanted to share …The Hub: The world’s first participatory media site for human rights

    the hub_image

Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was deposed in a coup in June. Zelaya returned to Honduras on Monday, ending… almost three months of exile and bringing the world’s attention to his cause again.

This video is from July reports from Nicaragua/Honduras border crossing, where the body of a Zelaya supporter was found badly beaten. Fingers are being pointed at the police forces – and human rights are being questioned. What do you think?

“The military and the police must respect human rights and ensure any use of force is proportionate during law enforcement operations and in accordance with UN standards. People must be allowed to protest peacefully without fear of being harmed or being wrongfully imprisoned.” – Kerrie Howard, Amnesty International
